Top Bunk Bunkie Board- -Blah to Rah-Rah!

Okay, maybe not "Rah-Rah!" but a much better view. I thought Hayes needed to feel like he was outside looking in the sky (during an air show in cartoon land?).

With scissors, felt and glue I improved my little guy's view! From this:

To this:

I took blue felt and stapled it to the bunkie board like this:

My felt wasn't big enough to cover the bunkie board so there's a seam in there. I googled images and found the cute little airplanes and helicopter--just print and cut shapes out of felt. I used a hot glue gun to stick the felt on and as long as the little guy doesn't decide to yank on them, they'll stay put. Easy peasy!

Procraftination

Procraftination - pro-kraft-u-na-shun - When you finish a craft project (you should have already finished) with no time to spare. . . ie, I want to enter Crafting With the Stars and I have (literally) minutes to spare to post pics--I suffer from (acute, severe, chronic) procraftination!!

Why Spammers, Why?

I have an email in my spam folder that sounds very authoritative. It's from the Federal Bureau of Investigations and it says, "FINAL WARNING!!!" Yep, three exclamation points. You know why does part of me want to take a peek? I know it's bogus and a virus that will make me send penis enlargement products to all my email contacts, but in the back of my mind I wonder--Has someone online put out a hit on me because they hate my email moniker? Is the FBI is trying to warn me and they MUST find me (via email) before the hitman does? Maybe "David" who emails at 2:51 a.m. really does need my help. Why would he be up at 2:51 if he didn't? Makes me curious what kind of help David needs from ME. He probably just wants to be directed to an awesome coupon site or he doesn't know what temperature/time to cook a baked potato. I could help David and feel really good about myself and find out what the FBI wants if only I weren't afraid of the viruses attached to their emails. . . *sigh*

Fundraising for JDRF--our letter

Dear Friends and Family,

Hey it's that time of year again--a time when we share our struggles with you in hopes that it will compel you to support our walk team Harrison and Harley's Hope for the JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes on September 24th. It has been nearly 8 years since Harrison (14) and Harley (19) were diagnosed with Type 1 (or insulin-dependent) diabetes--a diagnosis and constant companion. You can't take a pill for Type 1 diabetes and it can't be controlled with diet--only injected insulin.

In writing this letter, I was trying to come up with words to describe diabetes--somehow terrible just didn't cut it for a disease that strikes children. Abhorrent, atrocious, awful, beastly, contemptible? Not bad enough for a disease that forces children to inject insulin into their bodies as a source of life support. Despicable, foul, grim, grody, loathsome, lousy, odious? Nope, still not rotten enough to describe a disease that forces children to contemplate their own mortality. No word describes a disease that takes away a child's sense that all is well in the world--although take the above words and add sleazy, stinking, vile and wretched and it's a start.

Harrison and Harley hardly ever complain about having diabetes. If they did complain, you might know that several times a week, they have a low blood sugar or a high blood sugar that makes them sick--sometimes it's a headache, sometimes it's nausea and vomiting and sometimes it's a feeling of being too tired to do anything (enjoyable or not). You would know that it's next to impossible under the best circumstances to control Type 1 diabetes. Stress, excitement, anxiety and fear all affect it. If they're nervous about a ball game, excited about Christmas or worried about a test, they'll have a high that doesn't have anything to do with what they ate or how much insulin they just shot into their bodies. You would know how overwhelming and depressing it can be to understand the ever-present threat of losing your sight, your limbs or your internal organs and feeling helpless to avoid these (seemingly inevitable) complications.

You would know that everyone, especially little sis, is scared every time Harrison doesn't hop right out of bed in the morning. As she was filling her cereal bowl a few weeks ago, little sis watched Harrison fall to the floor. He was confused and incoherent. In trying to get up, he kept falling backwards hitting his head against the linoleum while she ran upstairs to say, "MOM COME DOWNSTAIRS FAST!!!" I couldn't get him to stop flailing his arms in order for him to drink so big bro held him upright with his arms down until he drank enough juice to rouse him. It was terrifying, to say the least. The worst part is that we all knew what was happening from experience. Oh yeah, you'd also know that diabetes complications can happen no matter what. With perfect control and not-so-perfect control diabetes or its complications can kill.

There are a few ways you can help but let's be honest they all include money. We have a walk team called Harrison and Harley's Hope. We would love for you to come walk with us on Saturday, September 24th at Scera Park in Orem. Being on our walk team and donating or raising money allows you to support Harrison and Harley in finding a cure for the disease they live with and will live with until a cure is found. The walk is a family event complete with lunch and games and activities for the kids--ALL FREE. All that we ask is that you make a donation--as large or as small as you wish ($25 would be a great start, though;) Go here to make a donation. To be part of our team, let us know by emailing laughfunnyha@yahoo.com.

Thanks for your support!!!

Love,
Harrison and Harley

I'm so excited to start actually posting on my blog. It began almost a year ago and I only posted once for a crafting contest. It's my true friend because I mistreated it and ignored it (even if it was always in my thoughts) and when I came back it was like I never left. For the past year I've been a creepy blog stalker, visiting my favorites again and again, wishing and hoping for some sort of inspiration (which I found in droves, thank you very much)until finally I am ready to share ideas of my own and post all the flat-out bitchin' stuff I've found/made! (I checked with my 15 year old and he agrees that bitchin', although outdated, utterly embarrassing and uncool, is NOT a swear word.) I'm working on some of the pictures that I will not, can not post until I figure out why they look like I took them with my 5-year-old cell phone. In the meantime, I wanted to stop being a creepy anonymous blog stalker and name some of my faves: I just recently happened upon Kind Over Matter I LOVE it! It is so refreshing to hear all the positive messages Amanda shares as well as the freebie printables. One of the first blogs I ever loved is Homemade by Jill. Jill shows us all of the beautiful, creative crafts she makes and I can credit her with making me a tissue pom-pom addict! I cannot get enough poms--I find myself looking for reasons to host a party so I can make them and look at them.

I know, get a grip. I have so many favorites that I can't possibly list all of them but I have to mention Stephanie Nielson's oh so beautiful blog, NieNie Dialogues and a favorite of many, AnaWhite.com. Such inspiring blogs--I love you all!!!

Okay, so I've been planning my daughter's Justin Beiber party and I am having so much fun (and wasting enormous amounts of time) getting ideas from all of the fabulous party blogs out there!!! I love Kara's Party Ideas and Hostess With the Mostess. There are so many ideas and so many you can do or make yourself--even if they need to be tweaked a little bit. I found this free printable invitation that matches one of our colors -- zebra stripes (even though we were a little disappointed that it's not purple and yes, I know technically zebra stripes aren't a color). I found the invitation at Celebrate-It and H said it's "perfect!" You can get your pink and zebra striped invitation here.
